Holly, your writing has the uncanny insistence of bleeding into my psyche. . .

Deer Girl's avatar

Maybe you should buy yourself a new book to cleanse your psyche? ;-)

It's in the post :)

Haha. Jolly good.

It's a teeny-tiny novel with nine teeny-tiny chapters.. works for me.. Big thank you.

Deer Girl's avatar

My favourite kind of novel to write. Big thank you back.

I'll be looking for it in the teeny-tiny bookstore. ;)

The window - gun violence and wet light complicit. Sash profanities x

Cuttlefish, pears, letters! Window. Beautiful.

Deer Girl's avatar

My favourite things! Heheh. Thank you Rhea! 🍐

They are all gorgeous. All of these hold great significance! I loved the structure and pace of this piece, too. So nice to have a moment to come back around and READ people’s (your!) lovely work.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you Rhea – and happy you had a moment. I’m enjoying writing in these numbered structures at the moment – they make me feel less pressured for some reason, probably because I can let images clash together and hop around a bit :-)

YES that’s it. I think it’s also a generous act that allows your reader to make their own connections. Satisfies the thirsty brain.

I really should spend more time here ;).

Thank you, Weather 🖤

“I eat pears and read your letters in the wet light. The world has ended and there is a window.” A wonderful piece. The form is just right.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you Sam (my parents had a window installed in the windowless bedroom during lockdown – I could finally see the pear tree – so it pleased me that this is literal as well as metaphorical, ha!)

Sam Rasnake's avatar

That worked well. Perfect closing image that opens the ending.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you 🙏🏻

This really makes me want to try harder. Once I'm in a position to become a paid subscriber, it's probable you'll be my first. 💜

Deer Girl's avatar

Ah thank you Giles, that’s very kind of you! And I appreciate you reading and commenting :-) I had fun writing this one.

your writing is absolutely wonderful. I was particularly struck by the "spectral limbs" imagery. it naturally feels so evocative in your body of work, and fits perfectly with the way you’ve structured the piece. you managed to weave so many themes together beautifully; it was truly a treat to read.

Deer Girl's avatar

Ahh thank you very much r! 🩵

You are so very talented. 🙏🏻

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you Leslie; you’re very kind 🤍

This evoked a little apocalypse for me in more ways than one. The window being a literal uncovering/reveal in the etymological sense of the word was cool. Wonderful imagery as always!

Thank you very much, Lee! 🩶
