Good lord!! That must be SOME kitty of yours that can snag an intelligent crow.
You sound like me, Deer. I sign off with cats on the same covenant I share with whomever I love: I won't constrain your freedom; you won't constrain mine. I don't force any cat to be confined indoors, not even for their own "safety". Every spirit that is born into this world has a destined time to die, in my understanding. And I don't agree with those who say we have to keep cats indoors to protect endangered birds. The cats did not create the conditions that led to their endangerment. If you want to solve that problem, maybe you ought to confine the human race indoors. 😊
She’s a Bengal cat – I think they are particularly skilled hunters, because none of my other cats have come anywhere close in terms of hunting. I didn’t realise how good they were hunting before I got her. We did put an anti-hunting collar on her which has helped a bit. It’s brightly coloured. She looks quite snazzy in it as well!
Thank you! I know what you mean. I often think about the way that animals are able to be in the present, and in ‘themselves’, in a way that we are not.
"If you crush a blue jay feather it turns brown. The blue was in the looking. What’s left is what was always there – brown and dutiful, the truth of the thing." I love this!!! 💙
I like this. You’re all dressed up, you’ve driven to say a wedding but you’re alone and filled with trepidation. You see these fox cubs and they give you courage. You gotta live your life.
ESPECIALLY if it's you driving to your own wedding (in the darkness before dawn, it's a long drive), and your turn around and go back home so you can "live your own life". (Sorry, Joe, the idea of weddings and such always brings out my sense of "guy humor".
It seems that you've managed to write for adults who've retained authentic connection with the child within themselves, their essence, to the extent that current dissonance resonates. In other words, lovely, nuanced, soft and impactfull authentic writng.
Thank you – I really appreciate this comment. I do try and find ways to show bits of wonder within the mundane, or the tenderness/joy that can exist alongside harder aspects of life.

Playing at murder!
My cat enjoys that game too… :-(
I immediately thought of the savagery of kittens! (Good thing they're small.)
Lordy, lordy, do they ever! I've always said cats' motto is: If it move, kill it.
Seriously. My cat sometimes drags pigeons and crows in. She just cannot see a moving thing without getting murderous!

They are certainly as beautiful as they are skillful!! 💜
This is excellent.
I've always envied this about the wild:
*I thought: look how simple it is, to just go forward into what you are.*
Thank you! I know what you mean. I often think about the way that animals are able to be in the present, and in ‘themselves’, in a way that we are not.
Yep.. they live their entire lives without regret.. never looking back, always eyes forward... accepting nature's next challenge.
* as always thanks for this brief moment.
Thank you for reading! 🖤

You could make that into one of those children’s books we cherish our whole lives
I’ve never written anything for children; I quite like the idea of it though! 🩵
