Photo: Sidmouth, or possibly Branscombe. I’ve forgotten!

Let me be there 🤩

“The town saying okay, okay, here, this bit’s yours.

We took it. We stood in it.”

I’d very much like to be back by the sea right now! :-)

I remember small stores where they watched with unblinking eyes. So many curve reflectors hung in the corners and dead spots it was less a corner grocery store, and more a hall of mirrors. We would go in sometimes just to make faces into the mirrors, and then run, giggling, as the owner grumbled at us, unwilling to chase, this would be artificial Argus Panoptes.

Haha, yes we did the same. Until we got banned. Oops!

Same, LOL.

A place just for the young girls, you took it, it was yours. In a world where everyone’s watching, this was a nice reprieve, a sacred space somewhat.

Deer Girl's avatar

A sacred space, yes :-)

Thank you Lily 🤍

This is magnificent.

Oh my. I grew up at the coast, in a tourist town. The beach belong to them during the summer days. But when the night fell, or the weather turned cool in the grasp of autumn… it was, yes, our piece.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you – yes, exactly that! Those places only ever belong to you briefly. But maybe that makes it more beautiful.

I still remember the smell of the Star Wars figures on Wakefield market when I was what 6 or 7 they smelled nice, but the Darth Vader was different for some reason, and he smelled the best of all

Deer Girl's avatar

Haha, this is so niche and excellent. It’s so funny the way that happens as a child.

You take me to places I have never been and will never go. Amazing.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you, that’s a lovely comment :-)

I have never met you and likely never will. I say what I mean and what I feel. I look forward to your Friday postings.

Like usual your prose is absolutely beautiful. Your writing is inspirational, the way you create vivid images and an enthralling tone.

Thank you, Moon! 🩵

Still but expansive. It feels like holding a moment of your life, small and shining like a diamond.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you Gan! That’s a lovely description.

I did not go to university, by the sea. 😜

Deer Girl's avatar

Ditto! ;-)

(Always wanted to go to Falmouth – speaking of universities by the sea!)

I went to Aberystwyth but just did not do the study part 😜

Deer Girl's avatar

I went on a great geography field trip there once – we didn’t get much studying done either! 😆

I was 'studying' for a Bsc in Geography. I lasted 2 months.
