I love this. It feels like waves, but also like the act of observing: like the quiet beat of a heart. Somehow, it captures exactly how I've been feeling these past few summer days: lonely, yet found at the same time.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you Jeanne – thinking about it, that lonely yet found feeling kind of sums up what I had in mind when I wrote it. The idea that you are part of something larger, despite loneliness. 🖤

You mentioned a boat. I like it.

You've done some great ones with trains as well. I liked those too.

Hoping for the day you write one set on one of those small planes that can land on water. I like stories with those too.

Deer Girl's avatar

I’m afraid they are my worst method of transport. They sound terrifying. I’ve done a bus. I could offer… a tram. (Actually, wait, I think I mentioned one of those small planes in my spy story! I should rebrand as Vehicle Girl.

Buzz Kantwrite's avatar

I couldn't go on one of those planes either. I like the idea of it more than the reality.

I appreciate that you are like me in that you only write pieces based on true experiences.

Did you read my piece about that time I was working as a street magician and accidentally had a mark eaten by piranhas?

In all seriousness, a wonderful piece, greatly enjoyed (I'm talking about my street magician story... yours is good too though).

Hahaha. You’re a nightmare.

I loved the images and the atmosphere. The calmness of it. The images, the colors, the tastes... To me this is so you. And it made me think and be in awe of how the brain and language can be playful co-workers.

Beautiful.

Deer Girl's avatar

Thank you for your kind words Harriet. This was very much written in the spirit of play and I had fun doing it, which was nice because it was free of pressure :-)

Highly emotive read. I almost felt like I was viewing the moments through an old View-master.

Deer Girl's avatar

That’s my favourite way to view modern life! Thank you. Hope you are doing well today :-)

This is superb: "porcelain, tannic tide-line of tea"

You're a time weaver and I think that makes me a ghost.

Scenes are filled with imprints.

Imprints are filled with reminiscence.

A ghost can see the through-lines.

Thank you very much for haunting me, CC :-)

peroxide Amphitrítē is a *chef’s kiss* of a line uniting the Greek Myth (which I loved in the closing as well with Cygnus) and the domestic/modern.

I also very much enjoyed the hyper real / close observations of everyday life described in an unfamiliar way (tannic tea lines etc). If good poetry does anything, it forces us to confront what we know in a different way.

Deer Girl's avatar

That line popped into my head when I was falling asleep last night and it was one of those rare times where I actually used something directly from that state (usually it’s nonsense)! Thank you very much James :-)

Meditations On Permafrost's avatar

I love the scrambled thoughts you get just as you’re about to fall into a state of sleep. It’s like your language becoming untethered from consciousness. And yes, also a lot of nonsense with it.
